Some of us will never forget our first day at our Military Basic Training Unit. My first day was in the US Army at Ft Dix, NJ in 1964. When we got off the bus at our Basic Training entrance station, we were stereotyped by our civilian attire. For example, if one had long hair, he was considered a hippie; if one wore a cowboy hat he may have been thought to be from Texas; if one was African American with long braids and thick gold chains, he may have been thought to be from the inner city; if one had on a three-piece suit, he may have been thought to be a professional man. Often nicknames were given to us upon our entrance and those nicknames remained with us throughout our training.  [NOTE: we were judged by what we looked like and what we wore.]  Continue reading Christian or Chameleon

Are You Wrestling with God for Something He’s Already Given You?

Genesis 32:24-31; Matthew 26:41

Jacob wrestled or debated with the man, knowing that he needed to do something that he was not equipped to do. What is significant is that this was not a one-way interaction. Jacob and the man talked to each other. When you pray (talk to the Lord), do you also listen for His reply? The man did not walk away from Jacob and the Lord will not walk away from you either. Also, Jacob did not walk away. He persevered to obtain what he was asking for.

In v26, we see the man telling Jacob to let him go. In other words, ‘agree with me, so that I can leave. We’ve been going over this all night, it’s late, let me go.’ When you pray, do you say a quick prayer and get up and walk away? My Fitness Pal (MFP) Program

I know a lot of people who are watching their weight (go up and down), myself included. Many of us would like to lose weight or at least maintain a healthy weight. Years ago I found out about a program called myfitnesspal.com. It’s a free site and you can access it via your computer or the download the app onto your phone. What I like about it is that you log in and input what you eat, drink (including water), and what exercise you’ve done. Before you begin inputting your food intake, you set goals for yourself under your profile.
